How to Convert MP3 to MIDI
Choose your audio
To convert an MP3 file to MIDI, upload or drag in one file. A clean piano, guitar or vocal recording works best.
Convert in your browser
To change MP3 to MIDI, the model detects note pitch, timing and strength. Keep this tab open while it converts the MP3 into MIDI.
Download your MIDI
Save the .mid file and open it in your DAW or notation editor to adjust the notes.
Supported Formats and Limits: WAV, M4A, FLAC to MIDI
This MP3 to MIDI converter accepts MP3, WAV, OGG, M4A, AAC, FLAC and WMA files, plus the audio track in MP4 and MOV videos. For MP4-specific limits, container vs codec and failure cases, see MP4 to MIDI. Encrypted, DRM-protected, damaged or unusual codec variants may not decode.
For formats, accuracy and free vs paid answers in one place — including voice and humming — see the audio to MIDI converter page.
Each file can be up to 50 MB (50,000,000 bytes) and 3 minutes long. These are this tool's limits to keep memory use manageable, not limits of the MIDI format. Processing speed depends on your device. There is no daily quota.
The output is a standard MIDI file containing detected notes on one instrument track. Chords can produce simultaneous notes, but this is not instrument separation, sheet-music generation or an exact reconstruction of a finished song. No notes detected means no download—not a made-up result.
Powered by Spotify's Basic Pitch. The model and audio decoder load from this site when needed. Audio is processed locally and is not sent to an external API. No account or saved conversion history. See the privacy policy for website analytics.
What This Free MP3 to MIDI Converter Returned in Our Test
We ran a generated four-note melody (C4, E4, G4, C5) through this audio to MIDI online tool as an MP3. The status line read melody.mid · 4 notes · 4.0 seconds: the file name, how many note events were written, and the length of the audio that was analysed. The downloaded MIDI held exactly those four pitches, starting at 0.000 s, 0.905 s, 1.811 s and 2.695 s, each about 0.77–0.79 s long. The full event list and the WAV comparison are in the same-melody test.
The MIDI is written at a fixed 120 BPM. That does not change how it plays, but it matters if you want notation: see audio to sheet music for the score this test produced and how setting the real tempo cleaned it up.
MP3 to MIDI FAQ
Can I use this as a WAV to MIDI converter?
Yes. WAV and the other listed formats use the same audio-to-MIDI process on this page. Choose your file above—there is no separate converter to visit. See WAV to MIDI tips for getting cleaner results.
Will my MIDI sound exactly like the MP3?
No. MIDI stores notes and timing, not a recording of the sound. Your DAW's instrument determines how it sounds. No automatic transcription is guaranteed to be note-perfect.
Does this MIDI converter work on a phone?
It runs in modern browsers with WebAssembly. Choose a file from your phone and keep this tab open. Long recordings can be slow on smaller devices; start with a short clip.
Why are some notes missing or incorrect?
Reverb, noise, drums and overlapping instruments make note detection harder. Use an isolated instrument or a cleaner recording, then edit the MIDI in your DAW. This tool does not separate a full mix into instruments. For a drum loop, use the drum transcription tool instead.
Do I need to register or upload to a server?
No. File selection gives the browser access to your chosen file only. Conversion runs on your device. Refreshing this page clears the current result.
Is this MP3 to MIDI converter free?
Yes. It is free to use with no sign-up and no daily quota. Each file can be up to 50 MB and 3 minutes long, and conversion runs in your browser.
